A Message from Your Teacher

The actual project is to be completed in the welding lab.

Students will be allowed to work on their research paper, portfolio, and presentation during class time if other class objectives have been met.

Grading will be evaluated according to criteria given in the project framework guide and criteria established by the instructor.

CHOOSE A PROJECT

Think of and design your own personal project or choose from one of the following projects incorporating welding and metal-working.  

  • Get approval from the instructor to proceed with the project.
  • Choose a different concept and resubmit if no approval is granted.

Project Ideas:

  • Ornamental table
  • Ornamental garden gate
  • Ornamental bookshelf
  • Go-cart
  • Mini-chopper
  • Ornamental fireplace set
  • Ornamental four-shelf plant stand
  • Ornamental baker’s rack
  • Weightlifting bench
  • Hunting tree stand
  • Welding gas cylinder cart



WRITTEN PLAN

Submit written plans including sketches or blueprints either drawn by hand, by CAD, or through research i.e. internet, library.

  • Drawings must include dimensions, multiple drawing views, detail views with welding symbols, and material lists.
  • rough sketches shall be revised and improved according to industry standards



MATERIAL LIST

Create a material list with specific ordering information to include:

  • metal type
  • metal shape with dimensions
  • quantities
  • cost estimate from supplier

PRODUCTION PROCEDURES

Create a on-going written record documenting the fabrication process including the following:

  • Step #
  • Tasks performed
  • Tools and equipment used
  • Descriptions of fabrication and welding processes used
  • Consumable components used (filler metal, cutting tips, fuel, etc.)
  • Photos taken at various stages of progress
  • This record must be submitted at the end of each marking period for approval
