Rockland's
Children and Taxpayers Deserve Their Fair Share of State Aid
The
Lessons of state aid in the past are a cause for concern in
Rockland. Even in the last few years touted as “great” with
historic increases…Rockand has not received its fair share.
See historic charts of enrollment increases, CPI increases and
State aid increases. The facts speak for themselves. We need
a budget characterized by adequacy equity, flexibility, predictability
and clarity. Regional Cost must be included. Our children deserve
it. Our taxpayers demand it.
Promises
Made, Promises Broken
Even
before September 11th, Rockland’s children and
taxpayers took a number of HITS….. Building Aid……and ……BOCES
aid. My grandmother always taught me that your WORD is your
BOND. Unfortunately, the facts tell us that a promise is
a promise unless you are the state of NY. What
can our legislators do to help? Some obvious answers continue
to be available. There are ways to help district budgets
save that don’t cost the state a dime. (No unfunded mandates
& Wicks to name just two)
Sometimes
Company is NOT a Good Thing
The
Nyack School District has received less state aid for two years
in a row. It looks like the rest of the county is set to join
us with less this year. With mention of rural upstate and urban
downstate … Rockland and the suburban needs were noticeably
missing from the Governor’s budget address. The needs of Rockland
must be included as state leadership attempts to maintain the
states historic commitment to public education.
